We offer prenatal yoga, postpartum yoga and childbirth preparation classes in Sacramento, California. Om Birth Yoga provides a space to relax the mind, strengthen the body, and nourish the soul for new and expecting moms and their families.

Our mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment for new and expecting parents to connect to pregnancy, birth and mothering as a transformative and sacred journey. Through yoga practice we develop the ability to quiet the mind and stay present with the breath, and tune into our innate wisdom where we have the power to joyfully embrace pregnancy, birth, and mothering as they unfold.

“There are times in life when we come to the mat to play our edge and build strength.

There are times when life finds our edges for us and we return to the mat as a place to relax and renew.

There are days when we never make it to the mat and the day's yoga practice consists of a single moment where we smile, take a deep breath and feel our feet on the floor while standing at the sink washing a sippy cup — and that is perfect, beautiful yoga.”

— Rebekah Lake

While our bellies (and other parts) are expanding, there is also a tremendous amount of change happening inside of us, unseen. During pregnancy we are naturally more in tune with our physical experience making it an ideal time to dive deeper into the mind-body connection. As our emotional awareness is also heightened we also have a chance to utilize the process of pregnancy and birth as a tool for personal growth and healing.

About Rebekah Lake, RYT

A Registered Yoga Teacher and Birthing From Within® mentor, Rebekah Lake combines her background in Ashtanga yoga with a deep understanding of prenatal psychology, pregnancy and birth. Since 2005, Rebekah has helped hundreds of expecting women navigate the spiritual and emotional journey towards motherhood through the wisdom of yoga. Rebekah offers an integrative approach to birth preparation inspired by yogic philosophy, the latest research in pre/perinatal psychology, the Halprin Life/Art process, Hypnobirthing and Birthing from Within.

Rebekah draws from two decades of experience in movement exploration and improvisational dance. After attending the BFA dance program at CalARTs, Rebekah wanted something deeper, and it was a workshop with Dance/Expressive Arts Therapy pioneer Anna Halprin that inspired her to further explore dance as a healing art as well as a performing art. In 2001, she completed the Level 1 Halprin Life/Art process training with Daria Halprin at the Tamalpa Institute.

Rebekah first came to yoga as a contemporary dancer looking to build strength in her over-flexible body and since then her personal practice has evolved to meet the needs of everyday life. From super-fit yogini to nine months pregnant with seventy pounds of weight (twice!) to postpartum exhaustion, to “playing” yoga with a toddler, Rebekah is a firm believer in come as you are yoga.

In 2003, she completed her initial yoga teacher training at Free Spirit Studio with Shannon Wells and draws from the Ashtanga, Vinyasa and Kundalini traditions. She is grateful to all of the teachers who have influenced her teaching and guided her studies, especially Gurmukh, Tej and Akal at Golden Bridge Los Angeles. She is especially thankful to Lori Moore for years of providing her with a space to teach. Rebekah has taught yoga (both traditional and prenatal) through two pregnancies and has an extensive knowledge of therapeutic uses of yoga during pregnancy.

Rebekah has two sons.
